About project

Since before I could fasten buttons, I have been trying to come to terms with the history in which I was born, the people who live in that history and the land in which I live. Even then, I had a sense of bitterness and a hidden sense of responsibility; the past was haunting me from the far side of time. Now, in the present, it forces me to try again and again to reconcile my love for the place with its as yet untold history. The video project "Dissonances" was born out of the discovery of the video archives of Antanas Liutkus, Karolina Paliulis and Petras Klimas. Stories, photographs, artefacts, moving images and memories dictated both the name and the form of this project. They are like small islands of memory.

Together with Igne Narbutaite, creating sound and moving images, I started to look for a space for this project. It had to be a home, adapted for an exhibition space, where a cup of tea, a conversation, cinema, texts and smell could all fit.

Aušra Lukošiūnienė's work explores the theme of the transformed present. Having worked for many years in the fields of television, theatre and design, Aušra looks at the moving image through the prism of emotional memory. Currently, she finished short documentary Dark matter and the production of the film Re/Lost Worlds is underway,  the installation of Dissonances is moving from Europe to the USA. "What is important for me in film is the connection between the past and the present," says Aušra." The moving images  connect our moment of existence with the rhythm of our senses“.

Dark Matter

SLA Art Space Is pleased to present DARK MATTER a film by Ausra Lukosiuniene

Saturday, February 22nd at 6pm.

307 W 30th St. New York, NY 10030

Overview

Valdas Ozarinskas is a talented visionary man who left his life unexpectedly ten years ago, and who did not fit into the standard architectural frameworks. As the architect of many of the Centre for Contemporary Art's exhibitions, he spent a large part of his life at the museum. It is here that the artist's daughter Elena walks, having to unload the artist's legacy from the museum. The visit becomes a tender farewell and a touch of her father's work, as well as the projects that were never realised. Dark matter is not only the title of the film, but also the title of the architect's last phase of work: a black as a hole in space sadness and Ozarinskas own words: "We haven't done anything more”.
